Embarking on a blogging journey is not without pitfalls and self-doubt.

I never imagined I would become a blogger. I’ve been a practicing lawyer in my solo firm for over 25 years facilitating primarily infant adoptions. I love working with couples on a mission to become parents. I love working with young women who have a huge heart and a problem to solve. I love it so much, I never wanted to give it up. But one day everything changed.

On Becoming a Blogger Over 50 Hello Sweet Life lifestyle blogAbout six months ago, I decided it was time to embark on a new adventure – something that would make me excited to jump out of bed every morning for the rest of my life. For years, I’ve been searching for an enticing “second act” career. Everything I dabbled in felt like me as square peg trying to fit into a round hole. Nothing felt right until I started blogging and writing about topics that intrigue me.

I discovered the blogging community is filled with fascinating, intelligent, giving people writing about all sorts of interesting topics. From the quirky to the sublime, bloggers have unbridled freedom to express themselves creatively, be of service to others and, for some, earn a living. With blogging, I feel as if I am finally home.

Topics I’m Blogging About

The essence of this blog is happiness. Everything I will be writing about makes me happy and I hope will help you increase your level of happiness too in real, practical and concrete ways. My goal is to entertain and inform in the topics that I feel will best help you (and me), as Oprah would put it, “Live Your Best Life”. And why not? We deserve it. Am I right?

I’ve selected four subject matter categories in which I believe I can best offer value to you, sweet reader. Three are hyper-focused topics and the fourth is broad and free-wheeling! And they all are inter-woven and connected.

Happiness

The first category is happiness. Just like you, I have lived long enough to have experienced my share of circumstances and events that could have sent me spiraling into depression, never to re-emerge. I’ve even experienced, and continue to live with, unhappy circumstances that occur to less than three percent of the population.

Joy is something I cultivate every day for myself and those around me. I hope to be able to share what I know, and what I continue to learn, about what it takes to be happy even in the face of potentially crippling circumstances.

Lifestyle

A huge part of being happy and enjoying life is being interested in the world around us. A broad range of topics interest me and I hope to tickle your fancy with some of them in the articles I write about:

  • People/Celebrities
  • Decor
  • Health
  • Hobbies
  • Retirement
  • Adventures
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Interviews
  • and more.

This is the broad, free-wheeling category I was talking about! We’re going to have some fun with this one! I hope to offer you a variety of guest authors in this category too! Oh, and I LOVE doing live video interviews with people who inspire!

Organizing

Having life “organized”, I believe, is a key ingredient to being happy. It’s hard to enjoy life when you live in chaos, important responsibilities are overdue and neglected and you’re behind on everything!

  • Being organized helps you weather any storm
  • Being organized helps you be prepared for anything – whether that be disaster or the next fun opportunity!
  • Being organized gives you a sense of well-being.
  • Being organized frees up your mind and your time so you can be open to new adventures.
  • Being organized supports your sense of having a life purpose. A wise person once said that to be happy, you need three things: someone love, something to do and something to look forward to.
  • Being organized and intentional help you accomplish all three!

That’s why I say “Happiness is Being Organized!”

Blogging

The fact that a single, individual person can write about things online, have other people read it and even benefit from it, I find incredibly fascinating! How that’s done has got to be a wild, woolly and wonderful ride. I love reading others’ stories of real people who do just that. So I think it will be fun to share my own blogging journey with you including income and expense reports. (Yikes!)

For years, I’ve been studying online marketing, blogging, storytelling, branding and all the other topics that go along with building a successful blog. Now that I’ve finally given myself permission and have pulled the trigger, I am excited about creating something that will be beneficial to you.
